The lemonade diet is a detoxification process developed in 1940 by Stanley Burroughs. The diet is also referred to as the master cleanse and remains popular today. The current version was released in 1976 as a 50-page booklet explaining the diet. This system of diet is basically a strict cleansing program. Weight loss occurs but cannot be equated with fat loss but rather a loss of liquids and water. In fact, the book says that at least half the weight lost during the course of the diet will be gained back after completing the diet plan.

Many have abused this rapid weight loss method. This is not what the diet was intended for. The lemonade diet is difficult to follow mostly because we are dependent on foods. People experience different levels of success as their body starts to flush out toxins but the first days are the hardest. Some use the lemonade diet for four to five days only while others follow it for up to two weeks.

The lemonade diet is a method of detoxifying the body consisting of drinking only a mixture of liquids that include Grade B maple syrup, lemon juice, and cayenne pepper for a specified time to purify the internal organs of the body. This program will allow the body and internal systems to remove any accumulation of toxins in the tissues, organs and blood. Toxins are discharged through the system and purge excrement and harmful elements that remain after the nutrients have been taken utilized from the food you consume.

The lemonade diet also claims to help the body eliminate toxins and other undesirable elements that build up inside the system. We are familiar with the fact that too much of something is bad for us. Even if these substances are excellent for the body, if we have too much, we create an imbalance, leading to a wide variety of health problems. The lemonade diet will aid the body in the disposal of these additional substances within the body.

When on this type of regime, the dieter is only permitted to drink water or the lemonade mixture while solid foods are not allowed. The longer you are on the diet, the better for you in terms of getting rid of toxins. This kind of detox diet usually takes ten days for full effectiveness and through that time, it gives the body time to return to its optimal state.

Since there is no solid food permitted during this period, there will be no accumulation of toxins and toxic substances. While this kind of diet has a lot of advantages, it is wise to seek advice from professionals or nutritionists prior to committing this kind of diet program. The reason is that this type of plan may be restrictive, dangerous or harmful if not done with caution. There are claims by celebrities that this diet is a success and a lot of reviews of good results.
