Hidden Second Hand Treasure

Have you ever just looked around the house and felt like you needed to have a major clutter purge?  Most people do at some point, and unfortunately, the often end up throwing away items in their haste that could have made them some money if they had only taken the time to check out the second hand online marketplace.

You may never have thought about how much second hand merchandise gets bought and sold every day, but a quick visit to eBay can give you some idea of the scale.  Just looking at the collectibles category can be shocking.  People buy and sell almost anything that you can imagine.  If you take a closer look at what sells online, you may be surprised to learn how many of these valuable collectibles are just a little bit unusual.

If you are a child of the seventies or eighties, there is a very good chance that you attended at least a few concerts in your younger years.  For many concert goers, part of the overall experience was purchasing a tour shirt to commemorate the experience.  It turns out now  that those old concert shirts are quite collectible.  Not every band’s tour shirt will bring the same amount of money.  Some fans are a little bit more devoted than others.  If you were a heavy metal fan though, you might want to start digging through those old boxes of clothes.  Vintage Iron Maiden t shirts now go for prices ranging into the hundreds of dollars.  They don’t even have to be in good condition!

You might also want to check the corners of your attic for other old items that have been long forgotten.  Items like old advertisements, vintage clothing, and even toys from cereal boxes are worth money to collectors.  The next time you want to start dragging your “clutter” to the curb, take a deep breath and spend a few minutes checking eBay first.  It may turn out that you have some hidden treasure hiding in those old boxes.
