Hummus – My Favorite Dip!

People looking for a healthy snack can try hummus. It is a perfect dip for your favorite pita chips, fresh vegetables, and pita breads while enjoying a movie in your house. Although a hummus can look bland and boring, its taste is surely lovable.  Recipes for hummus are easy to prepare and will take you about two hours to cook.

Hummus is an ancient delicacy in the Middle East. It is made of cooked chickpeas mashed finely to achieve a consistent texture. In the past years, this delicacy has been introduced to the Western world. And it has proved to be a favorite, not only because of its distinct nutty flavor but more because of it nutritional content. Experts say that hummus dishes are rich in Vitamin C, protein and iron as well as fiber. Its nutritional value makes it a complete meal in itself. No wonder, it has gained much popularity in just a short time. Now hummus is easily available at almost all grocery stores. You can even try them at some restaurants. But why go far when you can cook your own hummus. Here’s a recipe for a delicious hummus dip.

For this dish, you need to have the following:

1 can of chickpeas also called Garbanzos

1 clove mashed garlic

½ small white onion finely chopped

3 tbsp virgin olive oil

salt and pepper for flavor


1.     Place the chick peas in a colander and allow draining. Then transfer in the blender or food processor.

2.     Add the garlic, olive oil and a little sprinkle salt and pepper.

3.     Set the blender on the blend mode or equivalent. Allow the mixture to be processed until a puree texture.

4.     Add the onion. Blend for a short time.

5.     Place in a bowl and cover. Allow to settle until cool. Serve with your favorite fresh vegetable, chips or cracker.

Be sure to make its presentation appealing. To add some color, you can place chopped red pepper or paprika as toppings. Also, brightly colored bowls can make it look even more appetizing. Invite your friends and family to enjoy your own hummus recipe.
