All About Imperial Beach in San Diego County

San Diego’s coastline is dotted with beaches. Almost all of them offer something unique to each kind of beach goer. And there are millions of them in the country! There are beaches that are good for surfing, then there are some that’re good for snorkeling and other water sports, and then there are beaches that are specifically to hang out in and have fun, in bars, restaurants, and clubs. And believe it or not, there is actually a beach that’s specifically designed for sand castle building. This beach, is Imperial Beach.

Imperial Beach is a mostly residential neighborhood that spans over 6 miles of beach. In the past 10 years, it has grown rapidly into a commercial and tourist spot, undergoing a massive makeover during that time. But while Imperial Beach has now grown into a residential and commercial venue, it is known more for being the home of the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition. This competition is the biggest sand castle contest in the U.S. today, and is open to many sand castle makers and designers seeking cash prizes, fame, and a large audience for their work.

Watching artists create sand castles is fun and amazing, but for people looking for a more “cinematic” experience, Imperial Beach also hosts the Imperial Beach International Film Festival. This is where independent films from many countries around the world are being showcased, for guests in the Pier Plaza, and any other locals, to watch and enjoy. In the same area, there’s an art walk where artists can showcase their work to the people present.

Those who want to be closer to nature can travel to the Tijuana Estuary, the meeting place of the Tijuana River and the Pacific Ocean, and home of many endangered animals and lush vegetation and plantlife. It is a haven for nature lovers, and can provide some respite to the hustle and bustle of the commercial areas.

When guests are tired and done for the day, or just want to have a quick break, there are many restaurants, shops, and sports areas that they can enjoy. These are found in places like Evergreen Avenue, and Portwood Plaza.

All of these show that Imperial Beach is a place where people can find a little bit of everything, and still have fun. It is an ideal place to experience what most of San Diego has to offer, and is a good choice for newcomers to the city. These newcomers are encouraged to check out the following resources on Downtown San Diego real estate and San Diego mortgage.
