A Guide to Scabies Treatment

Once you have scabies, it can be a difficult disease to live with.  Not only do you have to deal with the constant itching, you also have to live down a social stigma.  This is especially true if you contract it on a visible part of your body.  Plus, if you get one of the complications of scabies, like Norwegian scabies, you may experience a lot of pain. Therefore, you need to seek treatment for this mite as soon as possible.

The first thing you have to do before you can start treatment is get a definite diagnosis.  You’ll need to visit the doctor to do this.  The doctor will examine your skin to see if you have scabies burrows present.  These signs and symptoms of scabies look like thin white lines where the mite has tunneled underneath the skin.  These can be destroyed by scratching, so the physician may take a skin sample to confirm the diagnosis.

After you have a confirmation of scabies, you’ll be started on a prescription remedy such as creams or pills.  Creams are effective 90% of the time, with some variation depending on the brand and strength. Pills are less effective, but they can work for those unable to apply the creams.  There are also natural remedies.  The most effective one of these is Dermisil for Scabies.

You need to apply a prescription cream once or twice a day, depending on the brand and strength.  Generally, this is applied for seven to ten days all over the body.  Your doctor may also instruct you to apply it to your scalp and face.  If so, make sure you follow his directions.  This is the only way to make sure you get rid of the mite.

Even after the mite is dead, you can still have symptoms.  This is because your body is still having an allergic reaction to the dead bodies of the mites.  An antihistamine can help ease your suffering a great deal.
