Need to know how to set up a hosting account for your blogs and websites?
Your hosting account is where the actual files that make up your WordPress blog or website are “hosted” or stored, so that they are “on” the World Wide Web, or Internet.
The hosting account that we use and highly recommend is HostGator. Their prices are very reasonable and, if you ever need help, their support is unequalled in the industry.
Your first step in getting your new blog up is to buy your domain name (also called a URL). There are a lot of domain registrars to choose from, we recommend GoDaddy as their prices are good and their support is great.
Some considerations when choosing your domain name:
1. If you’re setting up your blog for business purposes, you want to have your main keyword in your domain name. So, before you go to GoDaddy, brainstorm some domain names to have ready to see if they’re available.
2. Always use a .com (instead of a .net or .info, etc.) because people just naturally assume all domains are .coms.
Welcome back. I hope you found some journals worthy of your ideas. Now,
Let’s talk about business cards. Do you need business cards to be in business for yourself? NO. Most business cards end up in the trash anyway. People do not do business with you because you have a pretty business card.
I know a successful entrepreneur who doesn’t randomly hand out business cards. His philosophy is one of self responsibility, “If I plan to do business with that person, I’m going to call them.” He simply tells people, “I don’t have a card on me right now. Let me send you one.” Then he precedes to secure their information.
To date, we’ve covered having a designated work space, tools required, technology, money and prison. I left one important tool unexplored…
Remember I mentioned needing a journal earlier and neglected to stress the importance. Why would you need a business journal? Why would you need more than one journal? A journal is place to keep dreams and ideas on paper. Our brain is always working. Give it a break and put things in writing.
Anything and everything can be put in your journal. This is why I have multiple journals. I have a prayer journal. I have a journal with notes from books and tapes and seminars. I have a journal for each of my business ventures. If you’ve never utilized a journal, I recommend starting with 1.
In the last module, I talked about the tools you need and the importance of a day planner for your home business. I closed by strongly suggesting you keep the contact number of appointments handy while traveling to the designated meeting area.
Raise your hand if the traffic ever came to a sudden stop while you were headed to an appointment. This is why we keep phone numbers handy and invest in a good headset.
Previously, I stressed the importance of having a dedicated work space. O.K., you have a work space. Now you’re back to find out what magic tools need to be included in that space.
The truth is, there are no magic tools, but you already know that.
A business requires basic tools: office supplies, business cards, a planner and a journal. These supplies are not for the family. They are not for your husband’s shop or your wife’s sewing room or your child’s school project. Business tools are for the business. They are kept out of reach from the children and the spouses.
Welcome back! Raise your hand if you checked out Garth’s video. Is that inspiring or what?
Now, let’s go to work on Foundational Fundamentals… That’s a fancy way of saying, “There are some basics you must consider.”
First of all, look at your working environment. Is it conducive to work? When I ask, “Is it conducive to work?,” I’m not asking if it’s clean.
Do you have an area dedicated to your business? If you’re trying to work from the kitchen, on the same table where your family is meant to have meals, that is not dedicated to business.
Previously, I promised to share the one secret only you can know about your business. What one thing do you need before any of my material will benefit you?
Know your “Why.”
Why are you an entrepreneur? Why do you want to work for yourself? Why do you want to rely on you? More importantly, why do you want to be successful in your entrepreneurial ventures?
If you didn’t want to become a success, odds are good you wouldn’t be going through this program. Of course, there are those who are not entrepreneurs by default. Those guys and gals aren’t reading my material. They have no drive, no ambition, no ‘why,’ and no J.O.B. The reason they don’t have a J.O.B. is obvious.
Have you ever decided NOT to do business with someone because you thought they were “small time” or unprofessional? The goal of this program is that no one ever thinks that about your business.
I’m Tami DuBose and I look forward to sharing Home Based Business Basics for the Entrepreneur with you. I want to insure you work like a pro in your business ventures.
What qualifies me to teach this program? Even better, who? My dad.
My dad has always been self employed. He’s also retired from the military. My four siblings and I learned early the basics of business and systems.
